It's cranberry season! Celebrate a new day, however frosty it may be, with this Cranberry-Raspberry Hemp Seed Smoothie. It's dairy-free and delicious. It's naturally sweetened with a ripe banana.
This healthy berry smoothie is a little bit sweet and a little bit tart. It has a kick from the cinnamon, and it's full of the vitamins from berries and protein from hemp seeds and almond milk. And kale! There's some kale hiding in there too. Cholesterol-lowering, calcium-rich, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer kale!
Here's what you'll need to make this antioxidant-rich breakfast smoothie.
cranberries: fresh or frozen
berries: fresh or frozen raspberries or strawberries
banana: ripe or overripe
kale: a handful of fresh kale leaves
milk: plant-based, like almond milk or oat milk or any milk of your choice
hemp seeds: 2 tablespoons shelled hemp hearts (or 2 tablespoon hemp hearts and 1 tablespoon chia seeds)
Put all ingredients in a high-speed blender and process until smooth. No sugar or sweetener required! If your banana is ripe or overripe, it will provide enough natural sweetness. Of course, you can always add a little honey, maple syrup or Monkfruit sweetener if you like your morning smoothie sweeter.
A smoothie must be visually appealing, especially if it's your first meal of the day.
I've discovered that the secret to a really green smoothie, which often relies on kale or spinach, is to add some fresh parsley to maintain that bright green hue. Likewise, in this Cranberry-Raspberry Smoothie, the intense red from the berries overpowers the green from the kale and the smoothie keeps its appetizing, cheerful pink hue.
Start your day with this dairy-free, antioxidant-rich, delicious cranberry-raspberry breakfast smoothie. Cheers!
