It's cranberry season! Celebrate a new day, however frosty it may be, with this Cranberry-Raspberry Smoothie. It's dairy-free, delicious and naturally sweetened with a ripe banana.
This healthy cranberry smoothie is a little bit sweet and a little bit tart. It has a kick from cinnamon, and it's full of vitamins from berries and protein from hemp seeds and almond milk.
And kale! There's kale hiding in there too. Cholesterol-lowering, calcium-rich, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer kale!
Here's what you'll need to make this antioxidant-rich cranberry raspberry smoothie.
cranberries: fresh or frozen
berries: fresh or frozen raspberries or strawberries
banana: ripe or overripe
kale: a handful of fresh kale leaves, any variety
milk: plant-based, like almond milk, cashew milk, oat milk or any milk of your choice
hemp seeds: shelled hemp hearts (or a combination of hemp hearts and chia seeds)
cinnamon: a warm spice that heightens the flavours in this smoothie
Put all ingredients in a high-speed blender, starting with the milk. If you add the frozen berries first they may jam the blender. Blend until smooth, then pour into a glass and enjoy!
No sugar or sweetener required! If your banana is ripe or overripe, it will provide enough natural sweetness.
Of course, you can always add a little honey, maple syrup or Monkfruit sweetener if you like your morning smoothie sweeter.
Why should I add hemp hearts to my smoothie?
Hemp hearts (or seeds)are an excellent source of protein, fat, Omega-3's, calcium, magnesium and other minerals. You can read more about the health benefits of hemp hearts.
👍🏼 Expert Tip: Keep it Pink!
A smoothie must be visually appealing, especially if it's your first meal of the day.
I've discovered that the secret to a really great green smoothie, which often relies on kale, spinach or microgreens, is to add some fresh parsley to maintain that bright green hue.
Likewise, in this Cranberry-Raspberry Smoothie, the intense red from the berries overpowers the green from the kale and the smoothie keeps its appetizing, cheerful pink hue.
Start your day with this dairy-free, antioxidant-rich, delicious cranberry-raspberry breakfast smoothie. Cheers!
