This dairy-free chocolate orange oat milk pudding is smooth, creamy, and chocolately! Made with both cocoa and dark chocolate, this easy vegan chocolate pudding recipe makes a rich dairy-free dessert. It's flavoured with orange zest for that heavenly chocolate-orange combination.

A spoonful of Chocolate Orange Oat Milk Pudding

Here's a delicious (and oh-so-easy) dairy-free chocolate oat milk pudding that does NOT contain avocado or banana! It's silky smooth with rich chocolate flavour, and with hints of orange zest, you'd swear you've added Gran Marnier.

(However, if you do want a chocolate dessert recipe with avocado, be sure to try this Dairy-Free Chocolate Mousse!)

Made with oat milk and two kinds of chocolate, this quick dessert is a healthy treat. I make it with 0-calorie Monkfruit and a stevia-sweetened chocolate bar to keep it sugar-free, but you can also use regular granulated sugar and chocolate if you'd like.

If you grew up with packaged or instant pudding mixes and love pudding as comfort food, here's a healthier option! This homemade sugar-free, dairy-free milk pudding will satisfy that desire for something sweet we often have after dinner.

Ready to make a quick healthy chocolate dessert? Here's what you'll need to make this vegan pudding.

🛒 Ingredients for Chocolate Orange Oat Milk Pudding

Ingredients for chocolate oat milk pudding
    • oat milk: store-bought or homemade (You can substitute other non-dairy milk, but oat milk makes a thick, rich pudding.)
    • dark chocolate bar: regular or stevia-sweetened, dairy-free
    • cocoa
    • granulated sweetener: sugar or granulated Monkfruit
    • cornstarch: or arrowroot starch, to thicken the pudding
    • vanilla extract
    • zest of one orange: this simple addition makes it taste like you've added Gran Marnier!
    • pinch of salt

    🔪 Instructions

    1. In a medium saucepan, combine the sweetener, cocoa, cornstarch and salt. Add the oat milk gradually, stirring until smooth.
    2. Over medium-low heat, stir constantly until the pudding starts to thicken. It will form bubbles around the edge. Once it coats the back of a metal spoon (in 5 - 8 minutes) add the chopped chocolate pieces.
    3. Over low heat, stir until the chocolate has melted and the pudding is smooth and thick.
    4. Remove from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and the orange zest.
    5. Transfer to individual dessert glasses or ramekins. Garnish with more orange zest if you'd like.

👍🏼 Helpful Tips to make Chocolate Oat Milk Pudding

If you don't like having a skin on the top of your pudding, press a small piece of plastic wrap on the surface until the pudding has cooled. Garnish once you have removed the plastic.

This recipe makes about two cups of pudding. It is quite filling, so a half cup serving totally satisfies!

    🔁 Possible Variations

Make a mocha oat milk pudding! Instead of orange zest and vanilla extract, add two tablespoons of strong espresso coffee.

You can substitute almond milk or cashew milk, or other plant-based milk, but the flavour will be a little different. Oat milk makes a thick, rich vegan pudding.

Make an oat milk pudding topped with balsamic strawberries. Chocolate with strawberries makes an incredible flavour combination!

    ⏲Storage Instructions

Once the pudding has cooled at room temperature, store it in the fridge. It will stay fresh for up to three days. I have not tried freezing this, but I suspect it would be fine. See this post Can You Freeze Pudding? It may change the texture, however.

    🍽 Serving suggestions

Serve this dessert in glasses, wine glasses, ramekins, small Mason jars, or tiny yogurt glasses!

This Chocolate Orange Oat Milk Pudding is delicious served warm, but it's equally good at room temperature or chilled. Your choice!

Garnish with a dollop of whipped almond milk or whipped cream if you'd like.
