I discovered the benefits of chia seed jams when I made this Quick Sugar-Free Blackberry Chia Seed Jam.

Since then, I've used a similar recipe to make it with other berries, too. Traditional jams use copious amounts of refined sugar and sometimes pectin to help them set. This blueberry jam relies on the gelling power of chia instead. I use 0-calorie Monkfruit sweetener in all my jam recipes. You can also use honey, or sugar if you like.

Ingredients for Blueberry Basil Chia Seed Jam

Here's what you'll need to make this Keto sugar-free blueberry jam:

Ingredients for Blueberry Basil Chia Seed Jam

    • blueberries: fresh or frozen
    • lemon juice: fresh squeezed is always best
    • fresh basil leaves
    • low carb granulated sweetener: (like Lacanto Monkfruit with erythritol) to keep it Keto-approved, or honey for Paleo diet.
    • chia seeds: white or black
    • jalapeño pepper: optional, but interesting

    🥄 Instructions

    1. Bring blueberries, basil and optional jalapeño pepper to a boil in a medium saucepan, then immediately reduce the heat and simmer, just until the berries have softened.
    2. Remove from the heat, stir in the sweetener and chia seeds.
    3. Let stand to cool and let the chia seeds work their gelling magic.

About to try this one and I’m wondering how well this recipe cans? It seems like the perfect addition to a holiday gift basket, but I don’t want to use it if it could spoil. Any chance you’ve tried canning this?

Love chia seed jam and especially love fresh herbs with fruit/berries! What a beautiful pairing! Now, all I need is toast to smear all this deliciousness on...though, I would be tempted to eat straight from the jar 😉

Oh my gosh Elaine, do you know how much I love chia jam!? I rarely go without a batch in the fridge and I'm always looking for new recipes to try. I have a blueberry pomegranate recipe, but blueberry basil is brilliant! Pinned! Can't wait to make it!
