Mango with chili and lime is a popular Mexican snack, sometimes sold on the beach, sometimes served on a stick. It's a refreshing treat on a hot day. However, it's absolutely delicious year round. In the middle of winter, this mango chili lime salad can make you feel like you're on a tropical vacation!

Chili-Lime - a favourite flavour combo
Why put chili and lime on mango? Chili-lime flavours bring out the natural sweetness of this tropical fruit, making the flavours seem brighter and even sweeter.

This recipe for Mango Avocado Chili Lime Salad makes a quick side salad for two or three people. Here's what you'll need.
🛒 Ingredients
- mangoes: one large or two medium mangoes, any variety. You can use more! For the best flavour, choose fully ripe mangoes.
- avocado: one large
- lime: for both juice and zest
- chili powder and sea salt
🔪 Instructions
This is a quick salad to make at the last minute! Grab a mango and an avocado and season them to your heart's content. Your choice: mild or spicy!
- Slice mangoes lengthwise on either side of the pit. Score each of the mango cheeks to create cubes, then remove cubes to a bowl.
- Cut a ripe avocado in half lengthwise. Remove the pit, then score each half to create cubes. Add to the bowl with the mango cubes.
- Sprinkle with freshly squeezed lime juice, lime zest, chili powder and sea salt. Garnish with sliced limes and mint leaves (optional). Serve right away.
👍🏼 Helpful Tips
To get the most juice out of a lime, roll it on the countertop, pressing firmly as you roll. Remember to zest the lime before juicing it.
If you don't like highly spiced foods, start with just ¼ teaspoon of chili powder. You an always add more, but you can't take it away!

⏰ Can I make this mango salad ahead of time?
This salad does not store well. It is best eaten on the same day. When avocados turn brown, they're not very appealing!
More ways to use chili-lime seasoning
While you can buy Tajin seasoning, (which is a mixture of chili powder, salt and dehydrated lime) I like to make it myself, especially when I only need a small amount. Fresh is always best!
This chili lime seasoning is delicious on fresh pineapple and oranges, too. Try it on watermelon and cucumber as well, for a refreshing summer treat.

Ingredients
- 1 - 2 large mangoes, cubed

- 2 tsp lime zest
- ½ tsp chili powder
