Not your ordinary mango salad . . . this Mango Avocado Chili Lime Salad will knock your socks off!

Mangoes are one of my favourite fruits and I use them often. You'll find lots of recipes using mango here, like Mango Muffins, mango salads like Strawberry Mango Salad, Prawn Mango Avocado Salad, Mango Black Bean Salad and even a Mango Turmeric Smoothie to start your day on a sweet healthy note!

❤️ Why you'll love this recipe

Have you ever had mango with chili lime seasoning? If not, you're in for a treat! This mango salad is gently seasoned with fresh lime juice, chili powder and sea salt.

Mango with Tajin (a chili-lime seasoning) is a popular Mexican snack, sometimes sold on the beach, sometimes served on a stick. Fresh ripe mango with tajin is a refreshing treat on a hot day. However, it's absolutely delicious year-round. In the middle of winter, this mango chili lime salad can make you feel like you're on a tropical vacation!

Juicy sweet mango cubes, buttery avocado and just enough lime to make you pucker up--this salad is literally bursting with fresh flavour!

    Chili-Lime - a favourite flavour combo

Why put chili and lime on mango? Chili-lime flavours bring out the natural sweetness of this tropical fruit, making the flavours seem brighter and even sweeter.

Chili-lime has long been a favourite flavour combination of mine. I use it on chicken, as in these 5 - Ingredient Chili Lime Drumsticks and Honey Chili Lime Chicken Thighs. It also enhances salmon, as in this recipe for Easy Honey Chili Lime Glazed Salmon.

Try it on shrimp! Chili Lime Shrimp with Fresh Salsa is a recipe I make as a summer appetizer, but it would be delicious at any time of year.

This recipe for Mango Avocado Chili Lime Salad makes a quick side salad for two or three people. Here's what you'll need.

    🛒 Ingredients

Labeled ingredients for Mango Avocado Chili Lime Salad
    • mangoes:  one large or two medium mangoes, any variety. You can use more! For the best flavour, choose fully ripe mangoes.
    • avocado:  one large
    • lime: for both juice and zest
    • chili powder and sea salt. You can buy Tajin seasoning which is a mixture of dehydrated lime, chili powder and salt, but it's so easy to make yourself!

    🔪 Instructions

This is a quick salad to make at the last minute! Grab a mango and an avocado and season them to your heart's content. Your choice: mild or spicy!

    1. Slice mangoes lengthwise on either side of the pit. Score each of the mango cheeks to create cubes, then remove cubes to a bowl.
    2. Cut a ripe avocado in half lengthwise. Remove the pit, then score each half to create cubes. Add to the bowl with the mango cubes.
    3. Sprinkle with freshly squeezed lime juice, lime zest, chili powder and sea salt. Garnish with sliced limes and mint leaves (optional). Serve right away.

    👍🏼 Helpful Tips

    • To get the most juice out of a lime, roll it on the countertop, pressing firmly as you roll. Remember to zest the lime before juicing it.
    • If you don't like highly spiced foods, start with just ¼ teaspoon of chili powder. You an always add more, but you can't take it away!
    • Choosing a mango can be a little confusing, but once you know what to look for, it's easy to pick a good one. Here's a quick guide to help you:  How to Choose a Mango.
    • Similarly, we've probably all been disappointed when cutting into an avocado and finding it is past its prime! Check this guide for How to Choose an Avocado.

❓What's the best way to cut a mango?

To cut a mango, try one of these two methods described in this video and see which you like best. I use the drinking glass method most often.

⏰ Can I make this mango salad ahead of time?

This salad does not store well. It is best eaten on the same day. When avocados turn brown, they're not very appealing!

🍽 More ways to use chili-lime seasoning

While you can buy Tajin seasoning, (which is a mixture of chili powder, salt and dehydrated lime) I like to make it myself, especially when I only need a small amount. Fresh is always best!

This chili lime seasoning is delicious on fresh pineapple and oranges, too. Try it on watermelon and cucumber as well, for a refreshing summer treat.

When you make this mango salad with chili, please leave a comment and a rating. I love hearing when you've made one of my recipes, or what adaptations you made. Thanks in advance!
