Whether you're looking for a light lunch, an easy appetizer, or a sensational side dish, this Dill Caprese Salad is sure to become a summer favourite. Let's dive into this simple yet irresistibly flavourful recipe!

❤️ Why you'll love this recipe

    • Quick and easy: only 3 main ingredients.
    • A versatile dish: You can serve this salad as an appetizer, a light lunch or a delicious side!
    • Flavour and texture: Fresh dill perfectly complements the natural sweetness of tomatoes, while the creamy mozzarella adds an appetizing texture to each bite.
    • It's a change! Classic Caprese Salad with fresh basil and balsamic glaze is delicious, but if you're looking for a fresh change (or you don't have any fresh basil) try this Dill Caprese Salad instead!

For another twist on a traditional Caprese Salad, try my Pesto Caprese Salad made with cherry tomatoes instead of sliced tomatoes. It's a simple, incredibly flavourful salad made with fresh pesto, cherry tomatoes and mini mozzarella balls.

    🛒 Ingredients and substitutions

You'll find a complete list of ingredients with amounts in the recipe card below. But before we get to the full recipe, here are a few notes about the ingredients.

    For the salad

Labelled ingredients for Dill Caprese Salad: tomatoes, dill dressing, and bocconcini medallions.

    For the homemade dill dressing

Ingredients for dill dip with labels reading Greek yogurt, dill, lemon juice, sour cream, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder.
    • Tomatoes: use the juiciest, ripest tomatoes you can find for the most intense flavour.
    • Bocconcini medallions:  Bocconcini is Italian for ‘small mouthfuls.’ These small balls of fresh mozzarella have a firm texture. They often come pre-sliced as medallions, perfect for assembling this salad quickly.
    • Dill dressing or dip: I use my homemade Creamy Greek Yogurt Dill Dip as a dressing. It's a mayo-free healthy dressing made with plain Greek yogurt, an optional touch of sour cream, fresh lemon juice, and fresh dill. In a hurry? Use a store-bought refrigerated dill dressing instead.
    • Sea salt (or Kosher salt) and freshly ground pepper. Be generous, as the mozzarella medallions have a very mild flavour.

    🔪 Instructions

Here's an overview of what you'll do to make this recipe perfectly. You'll find complete instructions in the recipe card at the end of this post.

First, make the dill dressing and set it aside to allow the flavours to blend.

    🔁 Possible Variations

Make a Green Goddess Caprese Salad instead, using this mayo-free Green Goddess Dressing and Dip made with a base of fresh avocado. So flavourful, and with red, white, and green, your salad will have the colours of the Italian flag! 🇮🇹

    👍🏼 Helpful Tips

While you can buy a ball of fresh mozzarella and slice it yourself, you can often find pre-sliced bocconcini medallions, making this a very quick salad to assemble. Mozzarella medallions or slices are packaged in water in a container.

    ❓Reader's Questions

Can I make Caprese salad ahead of time?

This is a very quick salad to assemble, but if you like to have everything prepared in advance, this Caprese salad with dill dressing will last for 2 days when kept covered in the fridge. Pat the tomato slices dry with a paper towel first, and add the salt, pepper and fresh dill just before serving.
