Here's a refreshingly sweet and tart Wild Huckleberry Mint Mohito Mocktail for kids and adults alike! It's delicious with blueberries, too.

This refreshingly sweet and tart sparkling wild Huckleberry Mint Mohito mocktail is delicately flavoured with mint and lime.

Here's a non-alcoholic drink that's a little sweet, a little tart, bursting with colour, and totally refreshing. If you don't have huckleberries, blueberries make an ideal substitute in this mocktail recipe. (And if you're seeking a cocktail, just add an ounce of white rum.)

    Ingredients

    • huckleberries or blueberries
    • lime juice
    • sweetener: sugar, honey or Monkfruit sweetener
    • fresh mint leaves
    • sparkling water

    Easy Instructions

    • Put berries, lime juice and sugar in a blender and process until smooth.
    • Add mint leaves and muddle slightly, just until the leaves are lightly bruised.
    • Fill a glass half full with ice.
    • Add the berry mixture.
    • Top with sparkling water, a sprig of mint and some fresh berries. Stir and serve!

    Mint adds a delicate flavour

If you grow herbs, you probably grow mint! It's the easiest one to grow, and once you have it, you'll always have it. It's best grown in a pot, as it is a voracious spreader and will take over your garden, if not kept in check.

I often use mint in my recipes, sometimes as the featured ingredient, as in this Thai-inspired Cucumber Mint Salad, this Kiwi Cucumber Salad with Walnuts and Mint and often as an essential garnish, as in these Stuffed Dates with Walnuts and Mint.

Today it found its way into this Wild Huckleberry Mint Mohito Mocktail. So refreshing!

No huckleberries? No worries. This mocktail is delicious with blueberries, too. Enjoy!

I love that your little Dennis knows about wild plants! I think it's so important to teach children about nature. My Dad taught us all about foraging and wild plants when we were little and that's such a fond memory looking back. He used to make the most amazing gravy with wild juniper berries!

This is such a crisp, refreshing looking mocktail, Elaine. I love a good Mohito and this is a great twist on a classic! Cheers and enjoy the weekend!

Thanks Justine. Actually Denis is my husband! He'll get a kick out being called "little." We picked the huckleberries with my little grandson, Ethan. 🙂 LOVE your blog, BTW!

Haha, that IS funny! I'm not sure why I assumed that, I guess I read the part about him discovering the bush and then about teaching children about wild plants and that connected the dots in my head! Regardless, I really enjoyed this post. 🙂 Thanks for the kind words!

Wow, I've never seen a huckleberry before! What a treat that you have a bush so close to where you live. I agree that foraging is such an important thing to teach people. I've been reading up on it a lot, but I'd probably have to go out with someone more knowledgeable...knowing me, I'd definitely eat something poisonous!

That aside, this drink is GORGEOUS. Great job, Elaine!

Yes, Cassie, I do feel lucky to live where I do! I have lots of wild foods, just steps from my house.

Wow this sounds so refreshing and delicious. I love your pictures too! I really should forage more. I don't think I have ever tried huckleberries. I do know you need to watch for bears when near them though as apparently they love them!

        Thanks Mel,
I'll watch out for the bears! 🙂 Huckleberries grow wild in lots of areas across the country. They're small, but totally worth the time it takes to pick them.

We love picking wild berries! I've never tried huckleberries before, but I am sure if we found some they'd be delicious! We do have wild raspberries in our area. Hopefully we can forage some when they're ripe.

        Hi Julia,
There's nothing quite like munching on just-picked berries! Hope you get a chance to do so this summer.
